Ajuga is a garden escape that grows in patches. It is a low creeping perennial which spreads by means of numerous creeping stolons or stems (Fig. 1). Flowering stems grow from 10 to 30 cm tall (Fig. 2). The leaves are oval to spoon-shaped and are mostly smooth or only slightly hairy. The flowers are blue to purplish (Fig. 3) and are found in a thick clustered spike (Fig. 2). Flowering occurs in late May and June.
