Black Bulrush
Scirptis afrovirens
Despite its name, Black bulrush is a large sedge growing up to 1.5 m tall. Stems are triangular and the leaves are V-shaped in cross section. The flowering head is once- but more often twice-branched with short cylindrical spikes born in dense clusters . It spreads only by seed. Seedlings tiller profusely forming large, dense tussocks characteristic of older plants .
