Broad-Leaved and Narrow-Leaved Plantain

Non-spreading, low-growing perennials with deep fibrous root systems and above ground crowns.Leaves are basal or nearly so. Leaves of broad-leaved plantain have long fleshy and hairy stalks and 3 to 5 prominent veins radiating from the base of the leaf blade; whereas those of narrow-leaved plantain are narrow, lance-shaped (8 to 30 cm long), have short stalks and prominent parallel veins . On both, numerous tiny green-white flowers are born on spike-like spathes – those of broad-leaved plantain are long and narrow (7 to 30 cm long) and those of narrow-leaved plantain are short and 1.0 cm wide .
