Pale Smartweed is similar to lady’s-thumb but it is larger, it lacks prominent hairs on the leaf sheath and the flowers are green to white-pink . The leaves have a similar dark spot but the undersides of the lower leaves are hairy and the upper leaves have smooth undersides with numerous yellow glands.
