Quack Grass (couch, twitch grass)
Elytrigia repens (L.) Desv ex B.D. Jacks.
A vigorous, upright perennial (–1.0 m tall) grass originating from Europe that is adapted to fertile soils and occurs mainly in formerly cultivated fields or farm sites. Persists and spreads by shoots that arise from nodes on long, white underground rhizomes. Can also be identified by the smooth, broad leaves with clasping auricles and the spike seed head.
