Rough Hair Grass
Agrostis scabra “Mild.
A common perennial grass with a shallow, fibrous root system, that forms a dense tussock of very fine basal leaves (Fig. 1). The ligule is long and membraneous. The flowering head is a delicate, spreading panicle that turns brown on maturity in August giving infestations a hazy, tan appearance. These often break off when windy and scatter seed. Spikelets have a small, single floret (and seed) and glumes with toothed margins.
