Sheep Laurel (Lambkill)
Kalmia angustifolia L.
An erect, evergreen shrub 30 to 50 cm tall adapted to barrens and other dry sites. Leaves are opposite with slightly in-rolled margins and a powdery-white under surface. The bright pink-red flowers are arranged in a whorl around the stem. Petals are fused into a ‘cup’ and the 10 stamens are fused onto the petals. The fruit is a small capsule that may persist on the plant). Sheep-laurel is toxic to livestock.
