Tall Buttercup
Ranunculs acris L.
An erect, hairy-stemmed perennial growing up to 80 cm tall and well adapted to wet sites . Basal leaves have long stalks and are deeply divided into large-toothed lobes; upper leaves have shorter stalks. Large showy flowers with 5 bright yellow petals occur on branched stalks. The fruit is a cluster of seed that becomes dark brown with age. Blooms from May to September. Other buttercups may be found, such as the shorter creeping buttercup which spreads by stolons forming large patches.
