Tufted Vetch

A slender, trailing or climbing perennial with stems up to 2.0 m long and spreading by slender rhizomes. Leaves are compound with 5 to 10 pairs of narrow, bristle-tipped leaflets. Leaves have tendrils for climbing. Numerous mauve to purple pea-like irregular flowers occur on one-sided flower stalks that originate in leaf mils. The fruit is a flatten pod that splits on maturity ejecting the black, round seed. The coiled halves of the pods persist on the plant. Blooms from late June to October.
