White Cockle (White Tampion)
Meng latifolia Poiret
An erect biennial or short-lived perennial up to 1.0 m tall. Arising from a taproot with round hairy stems swollen at the nodes. Leaves opposite, softly hairy, lance-shaped, and those on upper stem are without stalks. The flower consists of a vase-shaped, prominently veined ‘bladder’ below 5 deeply divided white petals. Male and female flowers are found on separate plants. The male flower has a cylindrical tube marked with 10 veins  while the female tube is marked with 20 veins . The fruit is a capsule. Blooms from late May to September.
