Wild Carrot (Queen Anne’s lace)
Daucus carota L.
A much branched biennial with a taproot growing up to 1.0 to 1.5 m tall. Stems are red-purple in colour near the base; the upper stem is bristly. Leaves are alternate, finely divided and carrot-like . In the first year, a rosette of basal leaves forms . Numerous small flowers with 5 white petals occur in a multi-branched, compound and generally flat-topped inflorescence . The fruit is a brown seed with several rows of bristles. Blooms from June to September.
