American Water Horehound
Lycopus americanus Muhl. ex W.P.C. Barton
An erect, square stemmed perennial up to 90 cm tall adapted to wet areas. Leaves are opposite, lance-shaped with sharply toothed margins. Small white flowers with Based and irregular petals occur in clusters in the leaf axils. Blooms July to September. A closely related plant, bugle weed (Lycopus untiorus Michx.), may also be found but this species is shorter with more rounded leaves and occurs in dense patches.
