Bladder Campion
Thiene vulgaris (Moench) Garcke
A smooth perennial up to 80 cm tall with opposite, oval to lance-shaped leaves that are united at the base. Leaves have a whitish bloom. Flowers occur in clusters of 5 or more per branch (Fig. 3) and have 5 white petals with 2 deeply notched lobes. The sepals are fused into a bell-shaped, paper thin ‘bladder’ with dark, often purple, veins. The fruit is a 3-celled capsule. Blooms April to August.
