Canada Lettuce
Lactuca canadensis L.
An erect biennial up to 2.5 m tall with few lateral branches. Leaf shape is highly variable but generally plants have deeply lobed leaves and the margins may be toothed or smooth. The stem and leaves contain a milky white sap. There are numerous compound flower heads with yellow ray florets. The seeds are flat and wind-borne on a dandelion-like pappus. Blooms in July and August.
