Common Mullein
Verbascum Map sus L.
A very large, densely woolly biennial that forms a rosette of large, pale grey-green leaves in the first year and bolts producing a tall (up to 2.0 m) unbranched flowering stalk in the second year. The flowering head is a dense, compact, cylindrical spike consisting of numerous large flowers with 5 petals that are fused at the base to form a shallow ‘saucer. The fruit is a spherical seed pod containing numerous, tiny brown seeds. Blooms from late June to September.
