Cow Wheat
Melampyrum lineare Desr.
A small, erect, reddish annual with loosely branching stems generally <30 cm tall. Stems are square in cross section and slightly hairy . Upper leaves are long and narrow with one or two ‘teeth’ at the base. Flowers have a white to cream colored floral tube and occur in the axils of the upper leaves. The fruit is a capsule up to 1 cm long. Blooms in July and August.
