Smooth and Hairy Crab Grass
Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Schreb. ex Muhl. Digitaria sanguinahs (L.) Scop.
Upright to semi-prostrate annual grasses distinguished by their spreading racemes of 3-13 finger-like spikes .  Crab grasses tiller profusely at the base. Hairy crabgrass has wide, pale green, and densely hairy leaves. Smooth crab grass is darker green with narrower and sharpely pointed leaves. At maturity, both. may become purple-tinted. Ligules are membranous 0.5 to 2.0 mm long and there are no auricles. Both flower from July to October.
