Red Chokeberry
Aronia arbutifolia (L.) Ell.
A low-growing shrub very similar to black chokeberry or barrenberry. Leaves are alternate with in-turned teeth on the margins that are tipped with a dark gland. The undersides may be hairy. Lower branches may also be hairy. Flowers are white with 5 petals and occur in clusters. Flowering occurs from May to late June. The fruit is a small, 5-6 cm diameter pome ) that turns bright red at maturity.
