Redroot Pigweed
Amarathus retrojlexus L.
A coarse, erect, branching annual 1.0 to 2.0 m tall with a red taproot and often reddish stem covered with hair. Leaves are alternate, dull green, diamond-shaped and sparsely hairy. Small, inconspicuous flowers are clustered in terminal or lateral spikes with numerous spine-tipped bracts.
