Yellow Evening Primrose
Oenothera biennis L.
A coarse, branched, erect biennial or short-lived perennial 1.0 to 2.0 m tall. Leaves are alternate, lance-shaped and the margins may be smooth or wavy. Stems and buds are covered with hairs (Fig. 3). Large, showy, stalked and fragrant flowers with 4 yellow petals that fuse into a floral tube occur in terminal spikes. The fruit is a long upright, 4-sided seed capsule 1.0 to 3.5 cm long. Blooms from June to October.
